Donkeys Don’t Play Hockey
Workshop/keynote on entrepreneurship

“Essential truths for first-time entrepreneurs”

When we start a business for the first time, we’re all a bit like donkeys trying to play hockey — eager, determined, but not quite sure what game we’ve stepped into. We carry preconceived notions about what entrepreneurship looks like: flashy success stories, venture capital, and teams of employees. The truth? About 72% of entrepreneurs have no employees and start with very little capital. So much of the mainstream entrepreneurial advice simply doesn’t apply — and for first-time founders, it can lead to confusion, burnout, and self-doubt.

This workshop cuts through the noise. You’ll learn where to focus your energy, how to grow at your own pace, and what inner shifts are needed to truly think and act like an entrepreneur. Be prepared — this is more than a business workshop. It’s an identity shift. You’re learning to trade the donkey’s load for a hockey stick — and yes, it’s just as transformative (and awkward) as it sounds.

Learning Outcomes
1. Identify where you are on the Entrepreneurial Continuum
Discover which stage you’re truly in — Idea, Development, or Pre-Launch — so you can adopt the right mindset, actions, and expectations for where you are now, not where you wish you were.
2. Learn to “Act Your Stage”
Stop comparing yourself to seasoned entrepreneurs and start mastering the fundamentals appropriate to your stage. You’ll leave knowing which habits, skills, and decisions matter most right now.
3. Build a Strong Foundation (Before Scaling Anything)
Explore the core pillars every entrepreneur needs — from understanding your customer to managing cash flow — so you can create stability and confidence no matter what business you start.
4. Redefine What Entrepreneurship Really Means
Shift from seeing entrepreneurship as chasing an idea or independence, to embracing it as a mindset — one that blends creativity, problem-solving, and resilience in every part of your life.
